What if I want to change my address/color/size?

If you would like a different color or size from what you’ve chosen in the Kickstarter survey, please feel free to change your choice in the final survey on Backerkit. We’ve already ordered a ton of material based off your choices in the Kickstarter survey sent previously, so please change it only if you ABSOLUTELY have to.

You are free to edit your order (ie. color/size/MIPS/shipping country) on Backerkit until the deadline of 30th Sept. After that, changes to your order CANNOT be accommodated.

You can update your shipping address within the same country until October 15th. Once you have submitted your answers, you will receive a confirmation email with all the details of your pledge.

Does adding extra helmets impact the delivery date? If I’ve ordered more helmets, will they be shipped together or separately?

It depends on (1) The helmet size of your original order and (2) The helmet size of your new order. We’ve put the impact of each scenario in update 18 on Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lumoshelmet/lumos-ultra-the-new-standard-in-bike-helmets/posts/2951279.

Last updated: September 23, 2020 03:13

I want to get more helmets. How do I do that?

You have the option to add more helmets in the BackerKit survey. You can add more Ultra helmets and choose the size and color you like. Depending on your shipping location, you’ll also have the chance to add other Lumos helmets to your pledge for a very special Kickstarter backer price.

Last updated: September 20, 2020 20:58

Will upgrading my helmet to MIPS impact its delivery date?

No.

Last updated: September 20, 2020 20:25

I want to upgrade my helmet to MIPS. How do I do that?

On the BackerKit survey you’ll be able to update and upgrade your order and add MIPS to all individual Ultra helmets.

Last updated: September 20, 2020 21:01

Do you ship to my country? How much are the shipping costs, taxes and VAT?

Shipping, Taxes and custom fees will be calculated and paid for in Backerkit. Just enter your shipping address in Backerkit and all fees will be calculated accordingly.

Please note that taxes and VAT are subject to the laws and regulations of each individual country.

Last updated: September 22, 2020 01:49

I cannot find my country on the shipping list/it says that shipping to my country will cost $999. Why?

As mentioned on our Kickstarter campaign page, we ship to only selected countries worldwide. We wish we could ship to more locations, but we’re a small team and we’ve learnt the hard way that shipping a smart helmet with batteries in it to any and all countries in the world is not actually feasible for us at this stage. We DO ship to the following countries:

  • The contiguous United States & Canada
  • The UK, EU & Norway
  • Singapore & Malaysia
  • Australia & New Zealand

If your country is not in the list, perhaps a family member or friend could receive the helmet on your behalf? There are also companies that offer mail forwarding services, and which might be a solution to allow you to receive Ultra even if you do not live in a country we ship to.

Last updated: September 20, 2020 20:27

What accessories does it come with? Can I add extra accessories?

The helmet will have comfy pads inside and comes with an universal USB-C charging cable and a remote control that can be attached to your handlebars.

In the Backerkit survey you have the option to add extra accessories to your pledge at a discounted price. Please note that some items have a limited availability.

Last updated: September 20, 2020 21:00

How can I pay? When will I get charged?

On Backerkit you can pay with a credit card. If you have filled in the survey before the deadline of October 7th, your credit card will be charged soon after the deadline. You will receive an email when successfully charged. If the credit card is declined, you are reminded to update the card. The new card will be charged as soon as it’s updated.

Last updated: September 23, 2020 01:40

Did you receive my survey responses? Can I have an overview / invoice?

Once you have submitted your answers, you will receive a confirmation email with all the details of your pledge. If you update your survey later, you will receive another email of the updated information.

Last updated: September 20, 2020 21:20

How can I use my Lumos bucks?

If you have unlocked Lumos bucks during our Ultra referral campaign, the Lumos bucks will be automatically added and applied to your pledge and will show in your Backerkit survey.

You can spend them on merchandise and/or accessories on BackerKit (eg. add a visor, extra remote, charging cable, T-shirt, gloves etc.).

Last updated: September 21, 2020 02:35

I need help filling in my survey. There is a technical problem with the survey.

You can contact Backer Support from the “Need Help” section of your survey, which appears in several places. If you’re already in your survey, you can reach the help section by clicking the “Need Help?” link in the top right corner.

Last updated: September 21, 2020 02:34

Can I change/cancel/refund/exchange the accessories I have ordered in Backerkit?

You are free to change and cancel any items you have added to your pledge in the Backerkit survey until the deadline of 7 October 2020. After that your order will be locked and your credit card will be charged. We will then no longer be able to facilitate any changes and cancellations.

The support we get from our Kickstarter backers is what enables us to run and grow our business, gather customer feedback, design new products and improve existing ones. The funds we receive are allocated to various parts of the project, like product development and manufacturing. Hence we cannot afford to allow refunds and exchanges on the accessories/add-ons/apparel after your order has been locked.

Does Ultra come with a remote?

Yes, Ultra comes with the Lumos Remote Lite included. If you would like to get a spare one, you can add it to your pledge in the Backerkit survey.

Last updated: September 23, 2020 02:31

Can I use my Kickstart/Matrix/Street remote (Lumos Remote) with Ultra?

Yes you can! It’s also good to know that you can pair up to two remotes with one helmet.

Last updated: September 23, 2020 02:32

What are the differences between the Ultra Remote and the Lumos Remote?

Both remotes will activate the turn signals on your helmet. If you wish to have the automatic brake light feature, then you can add the Lumos Remote to your pledge in the Backerkit survey. The Lumos Remote has a built-in accelerometer required to activate the brake lights on your Ultra helmet.

The Ultra remote (Lumos Remote Lite) comes with with a replaceable 3V Lithium battery CR2032 included, while the Lumos Remote has a chargeable battery and comes with a Lumos charging cable.

The Lumos Remote Lite will be attached to your handlebars directly, whereas the Lumos Remote comes with a quick release mount that can be attached to your handlebar for easy installation of the remote.

Last updated: September 23, 2020 02:58

I don’t want two remotes. Can you leave out Ultra Remote and send me the Lumos Remote at a discounted price?

It is logistically too complicated since all Ultra helmets leave the factory with the Ultra remote (Remote Lite) included. However, we have decided to offer the Lumos Remote to our backers at a discounted price. The price for the upgrade will be the same as if we would have left out the Lumos Remote Lite. The benefit is therefore passed onto our backers who will get a spare remote in case they need one, at no extra cost.

Last updated: September 23, 2020 02:53

Does Ultra have a visor?

YES!! Ultra comes with a visor as an optional add-on. You can add the visor to your “order” in the Bacerkit survey for a discounted price.

Last updated: September 20, 2020 20:56

What size do I choose for the visor?

Like the helmet, the visor comes in 3 sizes: S, M-L and XL.The size of your visor should match with the size of your helmet. For example, a visor for XL Ultra will ONLY fit well in a size XL Ultra helmet. So please choose the same size for your visor as for your helmet.

Last updated: September 22, 2020 01:52

What colors does Ultra come in?

You can find all colors available to our Kickstarter backers here: https://lumosultra.com/kickstarter/.

Note: Many of the colors we will be offering to you, as our Kickstarter backer, will NOT be available for retail.

Last updated: September 22, 2020 02:03

What helmet sizes are available?

Ultra is the helmet for everyone. It is available in the sizes S, M-L and XL, and all have an adjustment system to adjust the tension.

Size S: 51 - 55 cm Size M-L: 54 - 61 cm Size XL: 61 - 65 cm

It’s a simple task to measure your head size. Grab a measuring tape and place it around your head, mid-forehead just above your ears. Make sure you keep it leveled and read the cms/inches.

Please note that adding MIPS to your helmet does minimally affect the size of the helmet. It will lower the available circumference by maximum 1 cm.

Last updated: September 22, 2020 02:03

Which helmet size should I get? I’m just between sizes.

If you are just in between sizes, we recommend a size that’s bigger rather than smaller, since the bigger one can fit smaller heads, but a helmet that’s too small will be uncomfortable.

Please note that if you add MIPS to your helmet, it minimally affects the size. It will lower the available circumference by maximum 1 cm.

It’s a simple task to measure your head size. Grab a measuring tape and place it around your head, mid-forehead just above your ears. Make sure you keep it leveled and read the cms/inches.

Last updated: September 22, 2020 02:03

What sizes are available for the T-shirts and gloves?

The T-shirts come in 5 different sizes: XS, S, M, L and XL. You can find a size chart among the T-shirt photos in the Backerkit survey.

The Lumos gloves are suitable for all hand sizes between 8 and 10 cm (approx. 3.15 - 3.94 inch).

To find your glove size, measure your hand with a tape measure across your palm. You should use your dominant hand, the right if you are right-handed, and the left if you are left-handed.

Last updated: September 23, 2020 01:59

Does it come with MIPS? What is MIPS?

Definitely! Everyone will have the chance to upgrade the helmet and add MIPS as an option for selected colours and sizes.

MIPS stands for Multi-Impact Protection System, and is a helmet-integrated brain protection system designed to provide additional brain protection in the event of angled or rotational impacts.

Last updated: May 25, 2020 21:35

Does it have any certifications?

Naturally! Ultra complies with the rigorous safety standards of the CPSC (USA), EN1078 (Europe) and AS/NZS 2063:2008 (Australia).

Last updated: May 25, 2020 21:35

How much does it weigh?

We estimate that Ultra will weigh about 370 grams (0.82lbs). The MIPS layer will add approx. 20 grams (0.04lbs) to that.

We are still in the process of perfecting Ultra and moving it to production so it is subject to change.

Last updated: May 25, 2020 21:35

How long does the battery last?

With a 1100mAh rechargeable battery inside, Ultra will last up to 10 hours with the lights set on maximum brightness - and even longer if you adjust the brightness & frequency in the Lumos app.

Last updated: May 25, 2020 21:35

What smart features does Ultra have?

  • 1 strip of white COB LEDs in the front.
  • 2 strips of red and orange COB LEDs on the back.
  • Rear turn signals that can be activated with the included remote control.
  • Compatible with the Lumos Companion App. Customize your light flashing patterns, check your battery life, track your activity and sync with Strava and Apple Health.
  • Gesture Recognition Feature with Apple Watch (Serie 1 and later).
Last updated: September 20, 2020 20:36

What are COB lights?

COB stands for Circuit On Board which gives a brighter, yet more diffuse, even glow. Ultra will be the first helmet to feature and integrate COB LEDs into a helmet in this way.

The helmet will be equipped with 98 COB LEDs in total. The front light will have 30 COB LED diodes ultra tightly packed together. The rear lights include 34 red COB LED diodes and 34 orange COB LED diodes.

Last updated: May 25, 2020 21:35

Is it weatherproof?

Come rain, come shine, you can always bring Ultra on your rides.

Last updated: May 25, 2020 21:35

Does Lumos Ultra have front turn signals?

No, but it does have rear turn signals. Our goal was to create a great helmet for you for a very budget friendly price. Due to this, and because of the design of the helmet, we had to decide to give up on the front turn signals. The rear turn signals are present and they will help you better communicate with cars coming from behind. The helmet protects your head and the lights make you more visible on the road.

Last updated: May 25, 2020 21:35

Does Lumos Ultra have an automatic warning light?

We wanted to create a great smart helmet for you for a very budget friendly price, while still making you more visible on the road. Due to this Ultra does not come standard with the automatic warning light feature, but it’s now available as optional upgrade.

All you need to do is add the Lumos Remote to your pledge in the BackerKit survey. You can pair up to 2 remotes with one helmet.

Last updated: September 23, 2020 02:25

When will you ship?

We will ship the helmets in several batches and the estimated shipping date depends on the type of helmet you have pledged for.

We will keep you updated on the progress and shipping dates on Kickstarter.

Last updated: September 20, 2020 21:06

Why don't you ship to my country?

We really apologize if you live in a country that we do not ship to. If we don’t ship to your country, believe us, we really wish we could. Unfortunately we’re a small team and we’ve learnt the hard way that shipping a smart helmet with batteries in it to any and all countries in the world is not actually feasible for us at this stage.

If your country is not on the list, perhaps a family member or friend could receive the helmet on your behalf? There are also companies that offer mail forwarding services, and which might be a solution to allow you to receive Ultra even if you do not live in a country we ship to.

I just got my survey confirmation email, I see both Kickstarter and BackerKit reward choices, which is right?

In order to speed up production we used the Kickstarter surveys to get an understanding of color and size choices, however the answers to the BackerKit survey are the true source of knowledge, the answers you selected through BackerKit are going to be the rewards you are receiving. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
